A.B. Baughman
Originally from the Pacific Northwest, Amanda moved frequently as a kid. She attended five elementary schools! Since she was never quite sure how long she would live in a place, books were her best friends.
She started writing poetry from a very young age and ventured into short stories in high school. Now, she writes middle grade novels (books for children aged 8-12).
She earned a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and taught elementary school for ten years before returning to college to earn her M.Ed. in Children’s Literature and Language Arts.
While in graduate school, her passion for writing was reignited when she participated in a program called The Red Clay Writing Project. She’s been writing regularly ever since!
After teaching for 23 years, Amanda took a year off to write two middle grade manuscripts. Now, she has a total of three. See her “Books” page for more information about her novels! She is an active member of SCBWI.
She’s been married to her high school sweetheart for nearly 27 years, and they have three grown children. Her replacement child is Clark, the border collie.
